The Dragino MDS120-NB is a NB-IoT Microwave Radar distance sensor. It uses 60Ghz Microwave to detect the distance between the sensor and different objects. Compare vs the ultrasonic or Lidar measurement method, Microwave Radar is more reliable for condensation / dusty environments. It can sense the correct distance even there is water or thick dust on top of the sensor. Measuring range is 20cm to 1200cm.
The MDS120-NB can be applied to scenarios such as horizontal distance measurement, parking management system, object proximity and presence detection, intelligent trash can management system, robot obstacle avoidance, automatic control, sewer, etc.
You can use various IoT Servers and different uplink methods including MQTT, MQTTs, UDP and TCP.Â
The sensor node uses Quectel BC660K-GL Multi-band LTE Cat NB2 module which can be used in most European countries. It has a card slot for an NB-IoT SIM card. Ask your mobile operator about availability of SIM cards, coverage, frequencies used and login procedures. See for example Deutsche Telekom IoT and 1NCE.
This device supports BLE for easy configuration and wireless OTA to update the firmware.
MDS120-NB is powered by 8500mAh Li-SOCI2 battery for many years of use.
